Mood Board

The mood board is used so that we as the producers and directors are aware of the kind of things that are associated with our thriller opening. The mood board is also seen as a board that we can put all our ideas on. We can add to it and take away some things from it. This is the mood board that my partner and I came up with

Information on Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock was born on the 13th of August 1899 and died on the 29th of April 1980 at the age of 80. He was born in Leytonstone.
He pioneered many of his techniques in suspense and psychological thrillers. When he gained success in British films he made his way to Hollywood - America in 1939.
He also directed more than 50 feature films in a career spanning 6 decades.
He was the 2nd of 3 children and was born to William Hitchcock and Emma Jean Hitchcock. Alfred Hitchcock was bought up as a Roman
Catholic.

According to Alfred, at the age of 5 he was sent to a police station with a note that said that he should be locked away for 5 mins as punishment. This is equally demonstrated in his films. During the first world war, Alfred Hitchcock tried to sign up for the war but got rejected because he was seen as obese. This was thought to be caused by a glandular infection.
After sometime, Alfred Hitchcock became interested in photography. With this he started working in film production in London - working as a title card designer for a London branch which became Paramount pictures
In the 1920s he received a full time position at Islington Studios with its American owner Famous Players-Lasky and their British successor Gainsborough Pictures. He was designing the titles for silent movies. It took him 5 years to rise from a title designer to a film director.
He also direct a film called The pleasure garden - a British/German production; this proved to be very popular. But the film The Lodger is what allowed Alfred Hitchcock to make his trademark as a director.

However it wasn't until he produced the film Sabotage that he fame as a director grew.

Late in 1979, Alfred Hitchcock was knighted. This made him Sir Alfred Hitchcock. Unfortunately on the 29th April 1980, he passed away in his sleep. As a result his body was cremated and later scattered across the Pacific Ocean.

Certfication

The BBFC defines certification as :
"In order to protect children from unsuitable and even harmful content in films and videos and to give consumers information they might need about a particular film or video before deciding whether or not to view it, the BBFC examines and age rates films and videos before they are released. This independent scrutiny prior to release ensures the highest possible level of protection and empowerment."

Some of the certifications that are seen before films are as follows:

Universal Anyone of any age is allowed to watch the film

Parental Guidance This also means that anyone of any age can watch a film with this certificate. However, parents that have children that are under the age of 8 should consider watching the film with their child(ren)

12 This means that anyone over the age of 12 can watch a film with this certification.

12A  This certification says that children aged 12 are suitable to watch the film. As long as they are accompanied with an adult.

15 This certification shows that the film isn't suitable for children that are under the age of 15. This is because the film may contain drug use, moderate strong violence, strong words, adult themes etc.

18 This certification shows that the film isn't suitable for people
under the age of 18. This is because films containing this certification have no limit on the strong words that are used. Also hard drugs are generally used in films containing this certification, strong violence, sex references and sexual activity can be used in films containing this certification.

My Ident

Heyy guys,
In my previous post I talked about idents and with this, in my next lesson in class me and my partner (Nnenna) created our own idents. We did this by using 'LiveType'
Here is the ident that we came up with.

When we go back to school we will be adapting it more to make it better and a bit more original.

Studio Idents

In class we have studied Studio Idents. Studio Idents are the first things that you see before you start actually watching the film. With Studio idents we are able to identify the production company involved in the making and funding of the film.

Some of these are:

Paramount pictures

Originally the logo had 24 stars. This was done as a tribute to the actors that were popular at that time - this is because paramount had 24 actors signed to them at this time. The loo was simplified in 1974. The Ident now has 22 stars. This version is still used till this day.

Columbia Pictures

The logo for Columbia pictures was creatd in 1992. The logo was repainted digitally by Michael Deas. He was hired to return the lady back to her classic look. the animation of the ident was created my Syntespian Studios. it starts of with a bright light, It then zooms out to show the torch and zooms out further to show the woman holding the torch.

Warner Bros. Pictures

The Warner Bros Ident is written on a shied with the initials WB inside. Across it, it has Warner Bros Television written in a banner. In the animation we see the logo ripple and we see the reflection of houses and factories inside it. This happens before we are introduced to the theme tune and the logo.

Universal

The Universal Ident has a picture of the Earth on a dark starry background. The title Universal then come across it as the Earth is spinning on its axis. At the same time there is a glow light coming from behind the Earth.

20th Century Fox

The 20th Century Fox Ident is mainly recognised by the sound of the drums and the trumpet as this is the first thing we see. It is ten followed by the 20th Century Fox logo which is written in gold. As this is happening, we are taken from behind the logo to the front of it.

Walt Disney

In the Walt Disney Ident, we see a blue, starry and cloudy sky. As we are taken downwards, we see a river which is beneath the castle. When this happens we see fireworks coming from around the castle. As we zoom out, we see the word Walt Disney Pictures written across the screen

In consideration of all these idents, my partner (Nnenna and I) have come up with ideas for our own Ident that would be appropriate for our thriller opening sequence.
